Past generations
Tina Tela is my “Nombre de Cariño”, which is Spanish for ”Nickname”. My beloved aunt Flora gave it to me when she noticed my struggle to pronounce the “R’s” in Cristina Portela. Our love for family and past generations is very important, it is instill through Childhood stories. We always heard stories of how our family came to Puerto Rico, who was in love with who and the parties! Aunt Flora would tell me about the hats and dresses they wore and how the fabrics and laces came from Spain. Tina Tela is my inspiration and dedication to all the women in my family. My belts and bracelets expresses my sensibility as a woman, my love for culture, architecture and most importantly my desire to capture the many unique “somethings” that make me a woman. My hope and desire is that you will find a connection with one of my creations and let it become part of your treasures. Tina Tela is meant to be pass on for generations to come, like a story. |
